Using Tails for Privacy

Tails is a portable operating system that protects against surveillance and censorship. Used and endorsed by Ed Snowden, journalists, activists, and private citizens all over the world, Tails allows users to aoid surveillance, censorship, advertising, and viruses. This is accomplished by routing all traffic through the Tor network. Tor obscures users' identities by spoofing IP addresses, encrypting traffic, and sending that traffic through a series of Tor nodes before dropping that traffic out onto the surface web. When used properly, this process creates real privacy and anonymity.

Tails is a complete Linux operating system that is simple to use once users get used to the differences between Tails and either Windows or Mac. The resources on this page are a brief introduction to Tails to help you get started and use Tails for things you do on a computer, while enjoying real privacy and anonymity.  These documents are copied from the Tails website for your convenience. I recommend downloading and printing them to make it easier follow along while using Tails. And check out this great YouTube video by DasGeek.
